At the annual MLK prayer breakfast Monday, guest speaker Robert Trestan, executive director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Boston office, urged residents to not simply recommit themselves to the principles of social justice for which Dr. King gave his life, but to actually take action.
“Equality and justice cannot simply be lessons we learn in history,” he stated. “Like Dr. King, you must stand up for yourself, your neighbors and those you will never meet, but who nonetheless seek and are entitled to justice. I hope that one year from now each of us can identify at least one step we took to advocate for justice, because true justice requires participants, not just spectators.”
