DHS grad completes cadet training at West Point

DHS 2013 graduate Mal- colm Edgar has successfully completed Cadet Basic Training at West Point Military Academy.

Edgar entered the academy on July 1 and completed the training, one of the most challenging events a cadet will encounter over the course of their four years at the academy.

“The initial military training program provides cadets with basic skills to instill discipline, pride, cohesion, confidence and a high sense of duty to prepare them for entry into the Corps of Cadets,” West Point said in a press release last week.

Over the course of the summer training, Edgar learned first aid, mountaineering, how to handle hand grenades, rifle marksmanship and underwent nuclear, biological and chemi- cal training. The West Point curriculum offers 37 majors, blending physical sciences and engineering with humani- ties and social sciences.

Edgar will graduate with the class of 2017 and plans to be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
