Duxbury Police have charged Steven May, 26, of Pembroke in connection with an early morning burglary on July 20 at Osborn's Country Store on Summer Street, following a two-week investigation.

Officer Francis McTernan was patrolling near the store at approximately 4 a.m. on July 20 when the burglar alarm at the store sounded. McTernan arrived on scene within 2-3 minutes and observed a masked

male fleeing from the building into the nearby woods. The officer noted obvious signs that a burglary had occurred.

"An extensive suspect search was conducted with the assistance of the Kingston Police and Plymouth County Sheriff's Canine Units," Police Chief Matthew Clancy. "The suspect was not located during the search, which was terminated a couple of hours later."

The search did turn up some of the stolen items (cigarettes) and cash that were discarded as the suspect fled. Police also recovered burglarious tools that had been discarded as well.

Duxbury Police Detectives Dennis McKenney and Dan Brown conducted the follow-up investigation, which resulted in police obtaining an arrest warrant for May. On July 30, May turned himself in at Plymouth District Court and was arraigned and subsequently released on personal recognizance to return to court in September. Needham and Dedham Police and the State Police also assisted in the investigation.
