Media relations manager at Battelle Memorial Institute confirms building is up for sale

The Clipper has learned from Katy Delaney, media relations manager at Battelle Memorial Institute, that the building owned by the company and the lot it sits on at 397 Washington Street, are up for sale.

Delaney said the Duxbury offices primarily house some of Batelle’s environmental activities as part of their energy and environmental business.

“Battelle is looking to grow that part of the business, so they needed to look for updated facilities,” Delaney said.

Delaney confirmed the company plans to move the 65 employees who currently work at the Washington Street location to a new building in Norwell that has upgraded laboratories and the newest technology. Delaney said the move to Norwell will most likely not take place until the end of the year. As of now, Delaney said she was aware of current negotiations about the property, but was not privy to any further information.

Battelle, a non-profit research and development organization established over 80 years ago, focuses on three areas: energy and environment, health and pharmaceutical, and national security.

As of press time, Town Manager Richard MacDonald said his office has not received any information from Battelle about the sale of the property and the relocation of the of- fices. Additionally, the office of Municipal Services said it has not received any information regarding the Battelle company and property.
