She's our hero of the year. Duxbury's youth have rallied around local hero Razia Jan over the last few months, learning about her efforts to provide education to young girls in Afghanistan, the dangers, challenges, and social implications changing the landscape for the future for women there. At DSU kids have been voting daily to help her win the $250,000 award to further her school.
Ultimately on Sunday, Dec. 2, the CNN Hero of the Year distinction was awarded to Pushpa Basnet from Nepal for her work to provide day care to Nepalese children whose parents are incarcerated. At DSU we congratulate and celebrate Razia Jan for her work at the Zabuli Education Center and for helping Duxbury youth think beyond themselves, embrace learning about other cultures and appreciate our right to pursue education here in the USA. Razia is DSU's hero of the year!

"The Gift of Giving" Youth Create Gifts for the Holidays. At DSU we encourage youth to give of themselves or to give to others all year round. Gifts can be simple kindness, helpful acts, and but in particular during the holidays, kids want to be able to give material gifts to friends and families. This holiday DSU is providing opportunities for youth to create original, handmade gifts for loved ones. We all know giving can be as much of a gift to the giver as it is to the recipient, particularly when the gift has been made with love. Make a holiday keepsake for your mom, dad, brother, sister, grandparent, friend or neighbor! Four afternoon sessions at DSU are offered: Dec. 12, 13, 19 and 20. See duxburystudentunion.com for details on craft projects and pricing. Sign up at email@example.com
