They have been a thorn in the side of Duxbury for the past few seasons, and last Tuesday they produced colossal pain for Coach Kelly Jurgens’ girls’ lacrosse team.
Jumping out to a 1-0 lead 33 seconds into the contest and holding onto the ball for a the first five minutes of the game, the Norwell Clippers rode the nine-goal outburst of junior Mary O’Connell to beat the Lady Dragons 17-7 and end Duxbury’s unbeaten streak at eight games.
The closest Duxbury would get was a 1-1 tie on a Hannah Murphy goal at the 20:18 mark of the first half, and from then on it was all Norwell, as O’Connell scored seven first-half goals to give her team a 10-4 halftime lead.
The second half wasn’t any kinder to the Lady Dragons, as Maddie Clark took up the slack for Norwell and scored three of her five goals to help build a 15-5 lead with 12 minutes left in the game.
Lily Smith (3) and Tina Balzotti (2) would score the final Duxbury goals.
The girls will travel to Hopkinton take on the Hilltoppers on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
