It was a rough start to the week for the girls’ tennis team that showed a solid effort does not always result in a win, as it lost to Scituate, 5-0, and was edged by North Quincy, 3-1, in a match called by rain.
Sophomore Kelly Dame had a tough time with Scituate’s Niki Lazarus, losing 1-6/2-6 at No. 1 singles, while junior Meghan O’Neal had a competitive first set with Haley Malerbi, 4/6, before faltering in the second set, 1-6. Senior Nicole Hanrahan lost to Tess Malerbi, 2-6/2-6 at No. 3 singles.
Both doubles pairs didn’t have any success either, as sophomore Brooke McCarthy and Sarah Palfrey dropped a 0-6/3-6 match to Roisin Sullivan and Caroline Kiddie, while the second doubles tandem of senior Anna McGeady and sophomore Jackie Hanrahan lost to Emily Richards and Emily Moxie, 5-7/3-6.
Dame continues to face the iron in every match, as she was taken down by North Quincy’s Elizabeth Sullivan at No. 1 singles, 0-6/1-6. O’Neal appeared to have an easier time with the other Sullivan (Sara) at No. 2 singles, but that also resulted in a 3-6/2-6 loss
Hanrahan battled Mallory De Voe in a 2-6/2-6 loss that earned the Red Raiders the victory, while the No. 1 doubles team of McCarthy and Caroline Phinney had their match rained out.
McGeady and Palfrey were the lone Duxbury winners sat No. 2 doubles where they beat Kayla Sugrue and Kim Tsang, 6-3/6-3.
Rain ended the No. 1 doubles match since the match had already been decided.
The Lady Dragons will take on Hanover on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 in Duxbury.
