The Dragons opened their season with perhaps their easiest opponent of the year last Thursday afternoon when they took on Patriot League foe, Quincy HS, and overwhelmed the Presidents to the tune of 16-0.
Playing at the JV level during the 2011 season due to a lack of bodies, Quincy had the misfortune of returning to a varsity schedule and opening its season against the eight-time State champs on the road. “We were able to get a lot of players into the game and it was valuable as we continue to evaluate our younger kids,” said Coach Chris Sweet.
Senior Seamus Connelly was the big gun for Duxbury, as he scored three goals and added five assists, while junior C.J. Laconte had four goals, senior Sam Sweet added a hat-trick, and sophomore Brendan Burke scored a pair.
Sweet was able to get all three goalies into the game with starter Henry Buonagurio giving way to sophomore Nick Marrocco in the second and third periods while freshman Josh Corbett saw action in the fourth.
The Dragons will take on North Quincy on Thursday afternoon at home at 4 p.m. in preparation for a visit from Irondequoit on Saturday for a noontime battle with the Dragons.
