The long standing rumor that The Bog was going to add a second sheet of ice is no longer a rumor, as ground was broken last week for an adjacent hockey rink that will include a full rink and a mini rink for smaller kids and goalie practices.
The Executive Committee of The Bog owners, led by civil engineer Brad McKenzie, announced that P3 Inc. of Norwell will be building the new arena with financing provided by Rockland Trust. “This was a long time coming,” said McKenzie. “We originally intended to build this rink at the same time we did the first one back in 2006, but the bad economy and uncertainty in the banking industry delayed our plans.”
The idea for a rink came from the suggestion of Duxbury resident and attorney Brian Cook, who approached McKenzie about heading up the project with his civil engineering background.
“We just felt this would be the perfect location being right off Route 3,” said McKenzie. “A lot of the rinks on the South Shore are about 15-20 minutes off the highway. We’ve had calls from Norwell and Hanover, both of whom can easily be down here in 15 minutes.”
Concrete is being delivered this week and the steel is expected to be delivered on April 16 with an expected completion date of mid-August.
