The Duxbury wrestling team has been decimated by injuries this season, and on Saturday at Brookline High School the Dragon grapplers lost another teammate to a concussion.
Junior JP Geiger was the latest casualty after a physical match with Brookline’s Andres Crespo. Geiger, who wrestles in the 138 lbs. weight class, has been one of the bright spots in dual meets, winning recently by pin against Patriot League rival Whitman-Hanson Also winning by pin in front of a large student body on Wednesday night in Duxbury were senior captain Bobby Boyle (220) and junior heavyweight Owen Grey. Grey also went 3-1 at the Warrior Duals on Saturday with three pins. Junior Jake Genereux (152), who leads the team in pins (17) and wins with 23, went 4-0 on Saturday pinning, all four of his opponents.
Freshmen Matt Boyle and Kyle Auer have been taking their licks in the upper weights, but have made steady improvement with Auer recording his first varsity pin against Newton South’s Adam Josephson in the 182 lbs. weight class.
The Dragon wrestlers are hoping that a week off due to mid-terms will help them get healthy in time for next Wednesday’s home match against Pembroke. That should mark the return of Patriot League All-Star Nick Kates, who wrestles in the 106 lbs. weight class.
