After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Hingham, the Lady Dragons rebounded with a pair of wins over Notre Dame (3-1) and undefeated Scituate (3-0) last week on the road, improving their overall record to 7-1 (5-1 in the Patriot League).

Junior Emily Giumetti was the offensive star for Duxbury, as she scored in both halves to lead the Lady Dragons in their non-league victory over ND. Sophomore Caroline Shaunnessy scored the final Duxbury goal.

Much more was at stake two days later when Duxbury travelled to Scituate to take on the Sailors, and they wasted little time jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game, as senior co-captain Cory Connolly scored what proved to be the game-winner.

Senior Molly Zaverucha would add an insurance goal shortly after that would stand up for the rest of the first half.

Despite holding the lead, the Lady Dragons were pressured by the Sailors during the opening minutes of the game, as the hosts registered the game’s first corner and first shot on net.

Connolly would score again in the second half, as team scoring leader Hannah Murphy registered assists on all three goals.

“I have to give the girls credit,” said Coach Pam Manley. “Because of traffic and the early start, we didn’t have a lot of time to warm up, but we got some drills in before the game started and were able to get right into the action when the whistle sounded.”

After taking on Pembroke and Middleboro to start the week, Duxbury gets a return engagement with Hingham on Friday afternoon in Duxbury with a possible first-place standing at stake.
