After suffering a pair of losses to Silver Lake (4-1) and Whitman-Hanson (3-1), the boys’ soccer team got back on the winning track with a pair of wins over Randolph (7-0) and Plymouth North (1-0) to up their record to 11-6 as tournament play nears.
The Blue Devils were just what the doctor ordered, as goals had been hard to come by for the Dragons. Mike Gabrielle (2), Bernardo Neves and Morgan Dwinnell led the Duxbury attack that was in need of a good warm-up for Friday night’s game with Plymouth.
It was a tough first half to watch, as neither team could get much offense going on the cold winter night, resulting in a 0-0 tie at halftime.
It was a critical game for the Eagles, who needed the win to help their tournament chances. But junior Dan Sangster saw to it that his team wouldn’t be their victims, as he took a throw-in from junior forward Jimmy Landry with 15 minutes remaining, and dribbled down the right side to beat his defender along the goal line. His shot from close range was stopped, but Sangster collected his rebound in close and poked it in for the game-winner.
On Sunday Tommy Drummy and Dan Sangster led the Keenan Division to a 6-2 win over the Fischer Division in the Patriot League All-Star game played at Silver Lake.
After ending their regular season on Monday night at home against Marshfield, the Dragons will now get ready for post-season play with the pairings to be announced on Wednesday morning.
