In the sculling events, the first champions of the day were Natalie Bowen and Margot De Deyne rowing in the doubles competition.  They won gold medals and were followed closely by their teammates Katie Porter and Katie Brasington who won silver.  Ben Potash competed in the men’s singles race winning a bronze medal even after colliding with a random kayaker on the lake!  The Boys quad (Kyle Dame, Mark Passeri, Clark Demos, Nick Tinkham) had a strong showing but in the end bowed to their rivals Worcester High School.

The events turned to sweep racing and both Novice teams produced strong results for DBMS.  In the first race, the Boys Novice 4+ (Chris Scavongelli, Peter Tenaglia, Andrew Whalen, Davis Muller, cox Zach Peterson) became State Champions by winning their race.  In a field of 14 teams, the Girls Novice 8+ (Madi Duddy, Michele Segalla, Sophia Jannetty, Anna McGeady, Emma Therrien, Kelsea Tower, Kate Dennison, Natalie Katz, cox Abby Armstrong) won bronze medals winning the first ever Girls Novice medals for DBMS.

In the Varsity events, the Girls 4+ (Jane Morgan, Kate Cameron, Hannah Murdock, Marissa Demos, cox Zach Peterson) placed 10th and the Girls 8+ (Emmi O’Day, Marley McDermott, Natalie Bowen, Margot De Deyne, Katie Brasington, Katie Porter, Laurie McLaughlin, Megan Abaspour, cox Samantha Caputo) placed 7th in a very tough field.

The Varsity Boys 4+ (Hunter O’Brien, Mike Sullivan, Pat Sullivan, Nick Tinkham, cox Caroline Hickey) placed a solid 6th overall and in a heartbreaking race the Boys 8+ (Ben Potash, Alex Kosharek, Nick Mulone, Sam Habgood, Jeff Blout, Kyle Dame, Buzz Ryan, Jonathan Frye, cox Kelly McElduff) missed the bronze medal by just 0.7 seconds to place 4th.With such a strong showing at the state level and such a young team, DBMS is looking forward to a great spring season.
