Registration will be held for the following programs Aug. 4-15, Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be a Thursday night registration on Aug. 6 from 6-8 p.m., and a Saturday registration on Aug. 11 from 9-11 a.m. All registrations take place at the Recreation Department office, 22 Washington St. (the Girl Scout House), in the rear of the building. There will be a non-refundable $10 late fee charged for all registrations taken after August 15. Checks only – Cash will not be accepted.{sidebar id=4}

Soccer: This program will be offered to boys and girls in grades one through four.  The program will begin Saturday, Sept. 13 and continue for eight weeks until Nov. 1, with every game taking place on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.  (Coach’s meeting will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Girl Scout House.)  Fee for this program is $50.

After-school athletics: This program will begin the week of Sept. 8 and ends Dec. 18.  The program is offered to children in grades three through five and takes place from 2:45-3:45 p.m.  Grade three meets on Monday, grade four meets on Tuesday, grade five meets on Thursday.  Fee for this program is $75.

Girls field hockey: This six-week program is offered to girls in grades five through 8.  The program will begin the week of Sept. 15 and continue through Oct. 29.  Classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays immediately after school.  Fee for this program is $70.

Flag football: This six-week program is offered to children in grades three through eight.  The program will begin the week of Sept. 15 and continue through Oct. 29 and will be held once a week from 3:30-4:30 p.m.  Fee for this program is $50.{sidebar id=1}

Cooking  for  kids: This six-week program will be offered to children ages 7-12.  Classes take place Tuesday evenings at the Girl Scout House from 6-7:30 p.m.  Session I begins on Sept. 9 and ends Oct. 14.  Session II begins on Oct. 21 and ends Nov. 25.  Fee for this program is $85.  (Includes all supplies and cookbook.) 

Turkey Trot race:  The Recreation Department’s Annual 4.3 mile road race will once again take place on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 22.  Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the DMS cafeteria.  The race starts at 10 a.m. in front of DMS.  Route begins at DMS, turning right onto St. George St.  Continue down Powder Point Avenue, over Powder Point bridge and back, and continuing down King Caesar Road.  Race ends at DMS.  Turkey for all category winners.  All runners will receive a turkey trot T-shirt.  Fee for this event is $10.  Cash or check accepted.  Please bring a canned good and/or non-perishable item for the local food bank. 

Adult yoga:  This four-week program will take place on Wednesdays from 9-10:30 a.m. or Wednesdays 7-8:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 3  and continuing until Sept. 25.  The classes will consist of warm-up movements and gentle stretches, hatha yoga postures, breathing techniques and guided relaxation.  Continued study possible at completion of the classes.  Classes will take place at the Whidden’s School of Fitness in Marshfield.  Fee for this program is $45.

Yoga for parent and (well-behaved) child: For adults and (well-behaved) child ages 10 and up.  Tuesday Sept. 2-23 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  Classes focus on core strength, stretch, and movement.   Teacher: Roger Whidden (see www.whiddenschool.com for bio and directions.)   Classes held at the Whidden School of Fitness Inc. 822 Webster St. Marshfield.  Fee for this program is $45

Women’s self-protection

For adult women and girls ages 12 and up,  Tuesday Sept. 2-23 from 7:15-8:15 p.m.  Classes use Yoga warm up, cardio-Kung Fu conditioning, and pushing and grabbing neutralizations.  Teachers: Roger Whidden and Laura Rancatore.  Classes held at the Whidden School of Fitness Inc. 822 Webster St Marshfield.  Fee for this program is $45.

Mediation: For men and women ages 15 and up. Tuesday Sept. 2-23 from 7:15-8:15 p.m.  Classes will be theoretical and experiential and are open to all levels.  Teacher: Eileen Shaw (see www.whiddenschool.com for bio and directions.)  Classes held at Whidden School of Fitness Inc. 822 Webster St Marshfield. Fee for this program is $45.

Girls karate: For girls grades K-8.  Saturdays Oct. 8 through Nov. 8. Classes combine Yoga, basic self-protection, and cardio-Kung Fu conditioning in a fun and creative environment.  Teachers: Roger Whidden and Laura Rancatore.  Classes held at: Whidden School of Fitness Inc. 822 Webster St Marshfield.  Fee for this program is $45.  (Uniform required – Cost is $30 payable to Whidden 15 minutes prior to first class.)

Wrestling: Grades K-8.  Sundays Oct. 19 through Nov. 9 from 4:30- 5:15 p.m. for K-4  and 4:30-5:30 p.m. for grades 5-8.  Classes emphasize stretching, strengthening, and endurance while learning sport wrestling skills.  Teachers: Roger Whidden and Andrew Chin.  Classes held at: Whidden School of Fitness Inc. Fee for this program is $45. (Uniform required – Cost is $30 payable to Whidden 15 minutes prior to first class.)
