Four of the Lady Dragons finished in the top 11 scorers of the tournament that was won by Barnstable’s Kaitlyn Sharpless, who fired a 33 on her par-29  home course.{sidebar id=1}

Senior captains Jenn Geary and Meg Wyrtzen led the Duxbury contingent, as Geary shot a nine-hole total of 42, good enough for a seventh-place finish with Mary Kate Robinson of Falmouth, while Wyrtzen was a shot behind at 43 and a ninth-place finish.

Freshman Briana Connolly and Emma Kellar shot rounds of 45 and tied for 10th-place.

“We don’t have the real low scorers who can win a tournament like this,” said Coach Jack Stoddard. “Our team is loaded with consistent scorers, and you can see that by where our kids placed.”

The real surprise of the week was the Lady Dragons taking home the league’s Sportsmanship Award; an honor rarely bestowed on a team that wins the league championship.

The team now has their sights set on the MIAA State Championship that began play on Wednesday morning at the Green Harbor Golf Course in Marshfield.{sidebar id=6}
