Despite wet weather early in the week that caused matches to be postponed, the Lady Dragons continued their aggressive play, winning two matches last week by identical scores of 4-1 over against Middleboro and Pembroke.

Despite wet weather early in the week that caused matches to be postponed, the Lady Dragons continued their aggressive play, winning two matches last week by identical scores of 4-1 over against Middleboro and Pembroke.

The girls hosted a great match against Middleboro that ended in a score of 4-1. Becca Winans (first singles) beat challenger Lauren Endicott with scores of 6-0 and 6-1, while Emily Averna at second singles out-played Middleboro’s Lacey Craig with two 6-0 wins.{sidebar id=4}

Stepping into the third singles spot was Julia Allen, who struggled against Lauren Simao and dropped her match 3-6/1-6.

 

In the first doubles spot, Jackie Enniss and Liza Thomas won their match (6-1/6-1) against their Middleboro opponents, while the tandem of Suzanne Dedyne and Therase Kozmiski played an exciting match against Mckayla Craig and Lindsey Browns. The Duxbury pair made a great comeback in the first match and closed the second set, ending the match with scores of 7-5/6-2.{sidebar id=1}

The team traveled to Pembroke on Thursday with Winans playing first singles against Eden Marrano in a hard-fought three-set match. After losing the first set (3-6), Winans was able to come back in her second set (7-5) before ultimately losing in the third set by a score of 2-6.

Averna played another great match in the second singles spot against Mary Vercollone that ended with score of 6-0/6-4. Averna stayed the course against a tough opponent with long rallies.

Dowd challenged Pembroke’s Lisa Higgins at #3 singles and won with both sets with scores of 6-0. 

First doubles also played a great match and beat Adriana Johnson and Maggie Harrington 6-1/6-0. Erin Nelson and Cory Tucker took on Lauren Hanly and Sarah Wrin in the second doubles spot and won easily with scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

After opening the week with Rockland, the Lady Dragons will continue their Patriot League schedule by taking on Hingham and Scituate.{sidebar id=6}
