Victories over Manchester (4-0), Portsmouth Abbey  (3-2), and a trio of 2-0 wins over Chevrus, Xavier, and Hotchkiss has established the Dragons as one of the top sailing teams in New England.

Perfect team racing conditions were in place when Duxbury took on Manchester/Essex Regional HS last Tuesday. A chilly, but manageable east-northeast breeze, allowed the Dragons to sail right past their opponents.

The DHS sailors simply had better boat speed, along with improved team racing tactics. Their starts put them ahead early, and made for an easy afternoon of competition, as they swept the first race, setting the tone for the rest of the day.

The Duxbury coaching staff was forced to make some changes early when Katie Gluskin had an asthma flare-up, prompting the insertion of an equally-skilled Chelsea Morgan in the #2 boat. They also made the decision to go with Julia Leonard and Leo Connolly in the #3 boat after losing the first race.

With warmer temperatures (50) and stiffer winds (10-14 knots) coming from the southeast, Duxbury rallied with three straight wins to squeeze out the win.{sidebar id=1}

On Saturday the team traveled 3.5 hours for some lake sailing at the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut where they took on a trio of schools.

With comfortable 65-degree temperatures and a 3-15 knot northwesterly wind, the Dragons dominated the day, sweeping all six races in the best-of-three race format against each school.
