Albert L. Babcock, M.D., 87, passed away peacefully on April 23 at the Duxbury home of his devoted companion, Antonia Colby Shoham.
Born in Bangor, Maine, he graduated Bowdoin College, Class of 1948. He received his M.D. from Jefferson College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Penn. and practiced at Hartford Hospital as chief of their reconstructive surgery department from 1963 to 2004 at which time he entered into private practice for several years.
He served as a volunteer surgeon on the hospital ship HOPE in both Brazil and Tunisia and with Project Esperanza on the Amazon River in Santorem.
He leaves behind four children and six grandchildren and his sister, Jane Babcock of Portland, Maine.
A memorial service was held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Hartford, Conn., and burial will be private in Somesville, Maine.
