Students, teachers and staff at the Chandler School are getting behind an effort to support one of their own.
Chandler’s Thomas Drummy, head custodian, has chosen to participate in the Polar Plunge on March 21 to support Gail Trenholm, Chandler School’s nurse, who is battling leukemia. “Gailforce,” as the movement has been called, includes several staff members from the school, including Sue Mulready, Erin Wiesehahn, Mary Duffy, Peggy Dickinson, Richard Henninger, Lora Goldman, Hazel Donaghue, Nicki Hart, Maura Doyle, Katie Higgins, Stacy Murphy, Katie Mills and Libby Car. Principal Suzanne Billingham.
Staff members got together and created a music video for Trenholm, to show their support to the lyrics of Katy Perry’s “Roar.” The video follows the staff throughout Chandler School as they wave, lip sync and show their support for the much-loved nurse by wearing “Gail Force” T-shirts.
In the video, staff members wave a picture of Trenholm after she lost her hair to chemotherapy. In the photo, Trenholm is wearing a Cleopatra-style headdress.
“Much like a dragon – or a lion if you are Katy Perry – we are all hearing her roar as she keeps on kicking cancer’s butt,” said Robin Miskel, Trenholm’s daughter.
Last week, Billingham gave an update to the Chandler PTA on Trenholm’s condition. She is now making only weekly visits to the hospital for checkups and is hoping to be home by the summer.
Pledge checks in support of Gailforce and the Polar Plunge can be made payable to Mary Duffy and sent to school, Attn: Mr. Drummy’s Polar Plunge.
