The Dragons doubled their contingent at the State Championships from last season with four Dragons set to make their debut against the best Division II has to offer.

Captain Jim Chappuis, Kyle Auer and Matt Boyle all qualified for States with top- three finishes last weekend in North Attleboro at Sectionals while Carter Lewis will also head back to North Attleboro for States as an alternate.

Boyle took second in the heavyweight division while Chappuis and Auer each placed third. Lewis reached the semifinals before drop- ping his last two matches to place fourth and Patrick Quilty also earned a Sectional medal by placing sixth.

“They all did a great job,” head coach Kyle McCarthy said. “Wherever they placed, they competed well and I’m very pleased with how we finished.”

Auer turned in a stellar performance in his weight class where he upset the number-two seed and avenged early-season losses against two of his other opponents to reach third place and secure his first trip to States.

“That was definitely the performance of the day,” McCarthy said.

Duxbury’s remaining wrestlers will now look for a spot in the coveted All-State Championships with a high placement this Friday and Saturday. Division II boasts some of the states top wrestling programs, but McCarthy is confident the Dragons will be in the mix in each of their brackets.

“It’s a tough tournament, but I think all three of them have the potential of placing in the top six,” he said. “All States is always the goal for our wrestlers.”

McCarthy added that all the Dragons but Chappuis will have at least one more bite at the apple as Chappuis is the team’s lone senior.

“We’re definitely a young team,” he said. “So we’re going to be back.”
