Several unique homes have been chosen for the tour and proceeds will be donated to the charity of each homeowner’s choice. This year’s charities include Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Duxbury Rural and Historical Society, Kevin Youkilis’ Hits for Kids, Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Sean Michael Ewas Scholarship Foundation, and the Standish Humane Society.

l surrounded by woods that would address the issue of showing the art work the owner represents as well as accommodating a small art gallery. The sophisticated living room, pictured here, features a beautiful slate fireplace, a wonderful full bay that is used as a seating and dining area, and access via French doors to an outdoor seating area. The color palette is muted and soothing, with rich, complementary fabrics, furnishings and artwork. The owner’s charity is Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Since its founding in 1947, Dana-Farber has been committed to providing cancer patients with the best treatment available today while developing tomorrow's cures through cutting-edge research. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a principal teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School and is among the leading cancer research and care centers in the United States. It is a founding member of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC), designated a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute.

The second sneak preview is a charming Gambrel just steps from ocean. Built in 1946, the home was completely gutted and renovated in 1999 by the current owners. The living room, pictured here, features one of the only remaining original elements, stunning floor-to-ceiling windows, affording fabulous views of Duxbury Bay. The

owner is an interior designer, and this beautiful home reflects her casually elegant style, and features many unique items and artwork collected during her travels around the world. The owner’s charity is the Standish Humane Society. The Standish Humane Society (SHS) was founded in 1969 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization of volunteers dedicated to the care and placement of stray and abandoned pets in southeastern Massachusetts. Through an active placement and reduced-cost spay/neuter program, Standish Humane Society works to reduce the critical pet overpopulation problem.

The last sneak preview is the magnificent King Caesar House. The house stands as a fine example of Federal period architecture, built with careful attention to detail and characteristic of skilled ships’ carpenters such as Ezra Weston employed. The front rooms, both upstairs and downstairs, remain practically unchanged from the original construction of 1808. The house currently displays a fine variety of artifacts from the Federal period. Especially notable are superb wallpapers in the two front parlors, which were imported from France for this house. These rare scenic papers attributed to DuFour were restored by a team of experts from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The charity for this home is the Duxbury Rural & Historical Society. The Duxbury Rural and Historical Society is a non-profit organization seeking to foster a better understanding of the heritage and rural environment of Duxbury, Massachusetts. The Society’s goals are to provide access to its buildings and lands, to provide educational programs for the community, to collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts relating to Duxbury’s history, to provide a library and archives for the encouragement of scholarly research and to publish documents of historical interest. The Duxbury Newcomers Club is grateful to the Society for opening this grand home and placing it on our tour.
